Connecting Community Needs with Resources

Health Programs

Neighborhood leaders and residents can help increase resident's health in their

neighborhoods through offering healthy lifestyle initiatives such as health awareness trainings and health clinic service programs. These programs are

categorized according to the area by which they provide services. Organizations may offer different programs in multiple areas. 

 

The main thing to keep in mind is that programs should address one or more of the stated indicators (below).

 

Health Awareness Training

This program area employs programs such as running, bicycling, aerobics, sports, etc.that engage youth and adults in living a healthy lifestyle and learning activities that can be employed to help them live an active lifestyle. These types of programs should address indicators such as: 1) Teen pregnancy, 2) Uninsured births 

 

Health Clinic Services

This program area utilizes programs that provide health information and screening services to residents in a target community through quality health care and healthy lifestyle education workshops and activities. These types of programs should address indicators such as: 1) Amount of people on ACCCHS, 2) Medicare, 3) Primary Care Area (PCA) Score, 4) Sliding fee clinics/School based clinics, 5) Teen pregnancy, 6) Uninsured, 7) Uninsured <18, 8) Uninsured births

Pima YOUTH Partnership (PYP) was founded in 1990 by a group of concerned citizens who saw that youth and families living in rural areas of Pima County did not have access to the same services, programs, and activities that youth and families had access to in Tucson. Starting in the three rural communities — Ajo, Marana, and Sahuarita — PYP began our mission: In partnership with communities, develop resources for the positive growth of their children.

Inside Track teen talk show. This live call-in program is originated from the studios of KGMS. Topics discussed include drug and alcohol abuse, teen sexuality, family issues and suicide. Also, KGMS van visits local schools for lunch remotes to give out tapes and talk to teens about positive

The mission of STANDUP FOR KIDS is to help homeless and street kids. This mission shall be carried out by a national volunteer force whose on-the-streets outreach efforts will find, stabilize and assist homeless and street kids in their efforts to improve their lives. Tanque Verde Extended Care Program

 

Provides a safe, caring place for youth out of school time

 

Tanque Verde Extended Care Program offers excellent ratios and a place where youth can practice, fail and learn. We encourage their development of positive character traits, and build relationships with their families. We emphasize healthy habits for their physical well being by offering PE activities and serving healthy snacks. Our funding is primarily parent fees and our non-profit is small but community oriented. Our agency also serves as the coordinators of Tanque Verde Community Schools.
